General Summary:
The Sr. Systems Engineer will provide technical leadership, project management, and task execution for administration, programming, maintenance, and performance implementation of departmental platforms.  This includes the installation of new software, operating systems, related utilities/services, and hardware products, as well as the integration of new products and software into the organization.   The role requires knowledge of computers, storage, patching and backup technologies.

Job Scope/Complexity:
Position requires general datacenter hardware and software requirements for technologies required to support the environment.   This consists of supporting up to 1600 users spread across multiple domains, as well as supporting any associated server, storage, backup technologies.   Candidate should be familiar with HyperConverged technologies, WSUS or SCCM for server patching, as well as CommVault backup or similar backup technologies.

Job Responsibilities:
The responsibilities below illustrate work performed by this position. Not all duties assigned to this position are included, nor is it expected that everyone in this position will be assigned every job responsibility.

Systems Analysis/Design

  • Design complex business or infrastructure solutions by meeting with customers to observe and understand processes and interpret those into compute solutions.
  • Install Operating Systems including Windows, and Linux onto compute solutions and optimize for maximum performance.
  • Install utility software into a server environment and work with other team members to validate the software has no impact to the applications and servers.
  • Configure storage in a hyperconverged environment.  Candidate should be familiar with Nutanix, Cisco Hyperflex, or VMWare VSAN or Dell VxRail technologies.
  • Utilize WSUS to patch Operating systems and third-party software in a Server/End-User Computing environment.
  • Configure, perform and troubleshoot server backups, including off-site backups using CommVault or other backup technologies.
  • Troubleshoot hardware issues, including any performance issues.
  • Analyze resources in a compute environment in order to run systems optimally.
  • Collaborate with third-party vendors and establish relationships with managed service providers.
  • Provide written documentation and diagrams.
  • Research, recommend, and implement new technologies that add value to the department.


Minimum qualifications (mandatory):
  • Bachelor’s degree.  Additional experience may be substituted for education. 
  • Two years of related work experience with computer systems, applications and Cyber Security technologies.  Additional education may be substituted for experience.

Preferred Job Qualifications:
  • Knowledge in the assigned technical areas this position is responsible for.  
  • A CISSP certification is desirable.
